Wachusett January 25th
Forgot my camera / phone in the car, so no photos today :) I arrived around 6PM and skied until around 8PM. Conditions were bizarre ... I think the rain and freeze thaw cycles messed with the snow. Even the freshly groomed stuff skied odd. It was like a mix between spring conditions with some hardpack underneath. Not icy, but easy to catch a tip. Overall granular. I stuck on the Polar Express the entire time I was there. The lift lines were really long at the Minuteman for the racers and...

Sugarbush 1/24/2012
Date(s) Skied: 1/24/2012 Resort or Ski Area: Sugarbush Conditions: Granular/ICE Trip Report: We left Binghamton about one o'clock Monday afternoon. It started raining about halfway on our journey. We checked into the Golden Lion about six o'clock. We ran into two guys from Quebec at breakfast who had skied Monday and said it was pretty good but Mt. Ellen was a bit sketchy. We made it to the hill at about 9:15. Things were pretty soft in the morning...

Mt. Cranmore 1.24.12
Stayed at a friends condo with my GF in Bartlett monday night. Ride up rt.16 was torrential rain with occasional pouring rain. It was freakin nasty out but I was hopeful the rain and forcast of rising temps would yield some soft snow and spring conditions on tuesday. We ate dinner at Delaney's in North Conway which was delicous as always. The roads were getting pretty nasty with all the the rain and some freezing precip that had fallen earlier in the Valley so we headed to bed. ...

Huntah Jan 24, 2012
Spring bumpin' at its best today! Saw this day coming, warm day after rain, not too cold night before, thanks to Mother Nature for keeping the cold away long enough -- incredible spring skiing in January -- lower K to the bump course mostly (many thanks to Skippy and the grooming crew for NOT mowing down the course which sadly seems to be the Huntah mentality last few years). Did a few Hellgate to upper Xover to bump course too which was also awesome spring bangin'. Ran into Justin and his...

Bushwhack Adventure Land 1/21/2012
(also posted this on T4T) Viburnum alnifolium aka Hobblebush aka Scrub brush aka pucker brush... at least that's what I decided to call the stuff. Correct me if I am wrong, I am curious to the actual name of this stuff and that is what I found online. Another thing some people call that brush would be "annoying" but that's all part of the fun for early season skiing! The technique to skiing it is point your tips down the fall-line and cover your face and hope you make it through... it has...

Sugarbush - Lincoln Peak Jan 21-22
Resort Skied: Sugarbush – Lincoln Peak Date skied: 1/21-1/22 Conditions: Packed Powder, Loose & Frozen Granular, machine made styro snow I woke up on Saturday to single digit temps and light snow falling. The snow report said there was 4” of snow on Friday and a fresh inch overnight, Steins was groomed and that the Castlerock chair was spinning so I decide to hit Lincoln Peak. Steins was groomed flat and a fast run. A groomed Steins is dramatically different...

Stowe 1/21 & Loon 1/22
Part 1: Original plan was to use some coupons to Bolton Valley, after reading the fine print and looking at open trails -- we decided to head over to Stowe instead. I have not been to Stowe much -- I think 3-4 times before, enough to know the rough layout, but not really the trade secrets like where the best glades are, the best way to avoid crowds, where to park, how the sun hits the mtn..... sorry for lack of trail names, don't know the mtn well enough --...

Sunapee 2012-01-22 ... the good, the okay, and the dick move
Alright so this was my first time at Sunapee I went there to meet a friend who lives right near there and he snowboards and he wanted to show me the mountain. The good: Wow my friend can snowboard! Like, no joke 85mph bombing down the mountain with excellent control. I was impressed and it took a little extra nerve to keep up with him. Most fun I have ever had skiing side by side with a snowboarder. The okay: What they called "machine groomed packed powder" is what most people in the...
